About Din Tai Fung

Din Tai Fung is a Chinese restaurant specializing in Xiao Long Bao, or soup dumplings. Since its founding by Mr. Bing-Yi Yang in Taiwan in 1972, Din Tai Fung has become world-renowned for its quality, consistency and service. Originally founded as a cooking oil retail business, Din Tai Fung was reborn as a steamed dumpling and noodle restaurant in 1972. With a menu that now includes steamed buns, handmade noodles and vegan dishes, the brand has won many awards and allocations. Today, Din Tai Fung has over 180 locations in 13 countries worldwide.

Din Tai Fung is a chinese restaurant in Santa Monica, California. It is listed at 395 Santa Monica Pl, Santa Monica, CA 90401, which places it among the local businesses of Santa Monica that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under taiwanese restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Santa Monica; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 12–9 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (310) 737-2088. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is dtf.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 496 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded chinese restaurants in Santa Monica.

Santa Monica is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Santa Monica follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Really enjoyed Din Tai Fung in Santa Monica! πŸ₯Ÿ The soup dumplings were delicious β€” thin skin, lots of flavorful broth, and perfectly cooked. The shrimp fried rice and shrimp wontons were also very good. The quality was just as good as what I’ve had in Taiwan. The service was friendly, and the location is super convenient, right in Santa Monica Place. Great place to grab a meal before walking around the mall or heading down to the beach. Definitely recommend it, and I’ll be back next time I’m in Santa Monica!

Din Tai Fung in Santa Monica completely lives up to the hype! Located right in the upper level of shopping mall, it’s incredibly convenient to get to, especially since you can just park in the attached parking structure without any of the usual beach-side parking headaches. The restaurant itself is stunning. The indoor-outdoor patio setup is gorgeous, featuring a bright, modern design with artificial turf accents and sleek circular seating that makes the whole dining experience feel upscale yet relaxed. Plus, you get some fantastic views of the surrounding area right from your table. As for the food, every single dish was a hit: Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings): Absolutely flawless, packed with flavor and perfectly delicate. Spicy Wontons & Noodles: The sauce has just the right amount of kick and pairs perfectly with the vibrant green noodles. Garlic Green Beans & Wood Ear Mushrooms: The green beans were perfectly crisp and garlic-forward, and the wood ear mushrooms added a wonderful, refreshing crunch to the meal. Drinks: Pairing everything with a chilled bottle of Nigori sake made the meal even better. The service was prompt and attentive, keeping up with the busy mall crowd seamle

Din Tai Fung is a very nice restaurant with a clean and comfortable feeling. I really liked the outdoor seating area. It had a chill and relaxing vibe, and they also have heaters above the table area, which helps keep your head warm when sitting outside. Nice little detail. The food was good, and I especially liked the cucumber appetizer. It was fresh, flavorful, and a great starter. The portions are a little smaller and the price is higher, but that is kind of expected for Din Tai Fung, especially inside a mall. One small tip: the restroom is located at the back of the restaurant. If you see a red light above the door, that means it is being used. Overall, great food, nice outdoor setup, and a very comfortable dining experience.

Ooh, wow! What a pleasant surprise! Not that I hadn’t already heard plenty of compliments about Din Tai Fung, especially this Santa Monica location, but I was still surprised by how uniquely beautiful it is. We were a group of six and were lucky enough to be seated 15 minutes before our reservation. Our table was right by the window next to the outdoor patio, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and just steps away from the fire pit. It was after sundown and a bit chilly, so sitting by the fire pit with the overhead heaters made the entire dining experience extra cozy. The food was delicious, just as expected. My soup dumplings arrived piping hot, which, to me, is always a good sign of freshness and authenticity. We also tried the chocolate xiaolongbao out of curiosity, and it did not disappoint. My kids especially loved the sea salt cream with a touch of matcha. Our server, along with everyone who helped clear dishes throughout the meal, was incredibly warm and helpful. He happily took photos for our group and introduced several dishes, making us feel well taken care of. This restaurant made our celebration of my daughter’s 19th birthday even more memorable. We highly recommend it t
